How do you respond when God's answer to a request is no? It's not the easiest thing to accept nor understand. I will be honest, at times it can feel a bit disappointing, which is ironic because there is a passage of scripture that reminds us in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." We must refresh our memory when plans are not going the way we want that God has good things in store for us. If we truly believe God's will for us is best then why are we frustrated and discouraged? I guess it's human nature and we must remind ourselves that God is not a man, that he should lie ; nor the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken and shall he not make it good? (Numbers 23:19) Yet, in the midst of frustration I am often reminded of many things God has said no to and looking back I am so thankful that he did. So why is this time any different? I have come to accept there are things in this life we will never understand or have an answer for, that's simply how it is. As parents often deny their children God does so with us. Parent's understand life and consequences in a way the child does not. Just as God sees and knows things we will never know or comprehend. He allows the good as well as the bad. Yes as well as no, and at times he is saying, not yet. When I put things into a broader perspective who am I to question the one who knows the end from the beginning? Who sees my thoughts from a far off, who truly knows what the future holds. I am learning to appreciate the nos. When we fully realize God has our best interest at heart his no will be appreciated. Let us think back to all the nos of the past and how grateful we are that those prayers were not answered. With a heart of gratitude I can truly say thank you Lord!
