You may be surprised by the number of people you know who are silently lonely. Because they smile and are often surrounded by others yet there is an emptiness within that they're unable to share with anyone. I've heard it said before that no man is an island. I believe God created us to connect with one another. That doesn't mean we need a large group of friends, one true friend is valuable. Sometimes it's good to expand the circle of people you are accustomed to being around. We must be open to trying something different. This year I became a volunteer at my local senior center. I feel as if it's benefiting me more than those I'm there at serve. The people I've met are not those I would have typically had an interaction with. But they have had such a positive influence on me. And it's shown me how important human connection is. Most of the people I now spend time with are over the age of 60 and I love it! I knew months ago that I needed to do something more with my time. A neighbor was telling me that she was a volunteer and she encouraged me to do the same. When the usual friends I once had fell away I could have easily fallen into loneliness and when I felt myself having those thoughts I chose not to accept them. I spend a lot of time alone, but I'm not lonely. There is a difference. If God is nudging you to do something different do it. Be ok with letting go of old relationships and be open to new connections. If you know someone who may not have the means to get out and you suspect they are lonely, why not reach out to them? Sometimes all a person needs is to know someone cares. A phone call or a text to let them know you're thinking about them. As we care for others God will allow that love to be returned to us. If you feel lonely ask God for healing and to show you what you need to do to overcome loneliness. We want healthy emotions and the right relationships. I'm not afraid to distance myself from anyone who's not good for my emotional health. That's important to remember, we aren't emotional punching bags or a dumping ground for others. God loves you and He wants you to be whole within. As you deal with your feelings, let me encourage you to write honestly how you feel. And share this with God, sometimes we overlook the one who created us, as if He doesn't know how to resolve our issues. I hope you are inspired by today's post, feel free to share with a friend. And never forget, we are unstuck, and we are free!
