Disobedience

I was thinking how we often get ourselves into trouble because of disobedience. We disregard the commands of God, the laws of the land, the instructions from parents & so on. Isn't it funny how we run to God when destruction is upon us yet we ignore his guidance when things are well in our lives. It's like a person whose remorseful afterwards. Once we've been caught and our consequences catch up with us then we find it easy to hear and obey. I believe God tries to prevent us from facing certain things, however, we open ourselves up through disobedience. This is not the topic I originally had in mind for today's post. In taking heed to my own advice I am obeying God's directives, to obey is a choice. We are free to disobey but too often we forget that our decisions comes with consequences. I know what it's like to feel the pain of disobedience. Through the course of my life I've come to learn some of it's lessons through the mistakes of others. I've had a front row seat in some cases to witness the grief and regret that can come from disobedience. It's a humbling thing to experience. Knowing that it could have been me, feeling so greatful that I was given another chance to get it right. We must open our eyes to see the things that are taking place before us. God often shows us what will happen if we don't make a change. I've had this happen to me so clearly this year. Why do some of us opt for destruction? Scripture reminds us to choose life. Deuteronomy 30:19-20,"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:  That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them." At times it seems as if we've been led to believe our behavior or choices have no ramifications. Some of us are under a delusion that we can do anything we want and nothing will happen. God is extremely merciful to mankind and many times we take that for granted. Living as if there's no end to our lives, as if there's not a day of judgment and accountability in our near future. To obey or not is up to us, I hope that we are wise enough to choose obedience. The best things in life are opened to us when we obey. Some people are dealing with poor health because they won't follow the instructions of their doctors. People are losing the soundness of their minds because they won't walk away from unhealthy relationships. A fulfilled life is an obedient one as well, I understand that freedom is found in structure and rules. We know the breakable rules, and we know the ones that require our adherence. Thank you for reading today's post and I hope you are inspired to be a little more obedient. And never forget, we are unstuck, and we are free!

Great post! I, too, pray that we will heed to the warnings of the Lord and glean widsdom through both the mistakes of our own but also through those of others. We tend to focus all of our attention to those who have been successful in certain things and while that is certainly wise, we should not discount the lessons we could learn from those who have not succeeded. The lessons of what not to do can sometimes be just as impactful of those of what to do. But it goes beyond just knowing, we must be obedient to the lessons we learn.
